Rooms: add, rename & delete

Add rooms to a job, name them, delete ones you don't need, and understand where items go when a room is removed.

An inventory is organized by room, and each room holds its items. You can add rooms before you capture, or let a scan or capture create one for you. This article covers adding, naming, and deleting rooms, plus where items land when a room is removed.

Who this is for: Crew and estimators.

Add a room

  1. Open the job and tap Add room.

  2. In the room picker, tap a room tile (the twelve presets run in walk-the-house order: Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Primary Bedroom, Bedroom, Bathroom, Office, Closet, Garage, Basement, Storage, Outdoor), or type a name under Other room.

  3. Tap Add room at the bottom to confirm.

The picker also shows which rooms are already in the job ("Already in this job: …") so you don't create duplicates by accident.

Note: Capture flows use this same picker. When you start a LiDAR scan or Photograph items, the app asks which room first, and that becomes the room the capture files under.

Naming and duplicate handling

You name a room when you create it, from the tile you tap or the text you type. If the name already exists in the job, the app automatically numbers the new one ("Bedroom 2") instead of making a confusing twin.

Renaming a room

  • A scanned room can be renamed on the scan review screen before it's imported, using the editable Room name field at the top of the review.
  • After a room is in the job, its name is set. Items themselves can always be moved between rooms from the Placement section of the Item Editor, or moved to Unassigned.

Delete a room

  1. On the room's header, open its menu and tap Delete room (also available from the confirmation on the room group).
  2. Confirm in the Delete room? dialog.

The confirmation copy stays truthful to what actually happens:

  • If the room has a measured floor plan, it warns that deleting also removes the measured floor-plan layout, permanently.
  • If the room holds items, it adds: "Its items aren't deleted — they move to 'Unassigned.'"

So deleting a room never deletes its items. It clears their room assignment and they survive under Unassigned, and it removes the room (and any scanned layout) permanently.

The Unassigned group

Items with no room appear under an Unassigned group on the job. Items land there when their room is deleted, or when you set Room to Unassigned in the Item Editor. You can reassign any of them to a room at any time from the editor's Placement section.

Good to know

  • Only scanned rooms have a floor plan. Rooms added by hand, photo, or voice have no measured layout, so deleting them warns only about the items (if any), not a floor plan.
  • Rooms sort in the order you add them. New rooms go to the end of the list.
